1. Four Indians make it to the latest annual Forbes’s ‘Heroes of Philanthropy’ list for Asia Pacific region.
Rohini Nilekani, wife of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, has given away about $40 million over the years for philanthropy.
Ajay Piramal, a serial entrepreneur and pharma tycoon, is said to have donated $6 million over the past four years to his Piramal Foundation.
Desh Bandhu Gupta, founder and chairman of drug-maker Lupin, has endowed $3.3 million to his charitable foundation past year.
The Youngest among the four Indians is 45-year Ashish Dhawan, a former Goldman Sachs banker.
2. Luis Suarez, controversial striker of Uruguay’s national football team, is banned from all football activities for four months by FIFA. He also has to cough up a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs ($112,000). He has been punished for biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s match against Italy in the group stage of FIFA World Cup 2014.
