1- Indonesia is all set to bag the hosting rights of the next Asian Games probably to take place in 2018.

    Vietnam, the scheduled host, had earlier withdrawn from the event citing financial constrains.
    The only time Indonesia has played host to Asiad was in 1962 in Jakarta.
    Earlier, Hanoi (Vietnam) had outbid the Indonesian city of Surabaya to bag the event in a vote in November 2012.

2- Voreqe Bainimarama, military leader of Fiji, is set to extend his grip over the country with imminent victory in general election.

    With over 60 percent votes counted, he has taken a huge and unassailable lead over his nearest rival Sodelpa party.
    Fiji, a country of 9 lakh, has undergone four coups between 1987 and 2006 prominently due to the ethnic tension between Indians and locals.
    This South-Pacific island is one among the few countries in the world with significant Indian minority.

3- Lalitha Kumaramangalam is the new Chief of the National Commission for Women (NCW). She replaces Mamta Sharma.

4- India is to join the world’s biggest industrial fair namely ‘Hannover Messe (fair)’ as ‘partner country’ for the April 2015 event.

    About 300 Indian companies would be a part of the fair seeking; technology collaborations, business tie-ups and investment into India.
    The event attracts nearly two lakh global leaders in business, technology, industrial scientists and policy makers.
    India was also the partner country at the 2006 messe (fair).
    With $21 billion bilateral trade, Germany is India’s sixth largest trading partner in the world.

5- BJP patriarch LK Advani has been appointed as the chairman of the Ethics Committee of Lok Sabha. He succeeds Manikrao Gavit of Congress to this office.

6- Rajasthan becomes the first state to ratify the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Bill. The bill, already cleared by both houses of Parliament, need consent from at least 15 states’ legislature to come into effect.

7- Government presented the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar (VRP) together with National Safety Awards (NSA) for year 2012. Both the awards were instituted in 1965 by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, with an aim to humanize industrial activities, enhance productivity and promote a culture of safety.
