1- Renowned Kannada writer UR Ananthamurthy breathes his last at 82.

2- TM Bhasin becomes the Chairman of Indian Banks Association (IBA) for the 2014-15 period. He, chairman and managing director of Indian Bank, succeeds KR Kamath to the office. IBA is Mumbai-based association of banks and financial institutions in the country.

3- British film director Richard Attenborough passes away aged 90. He is best remembered for his Oscar-winning directorial “Gandhi”.

4- Arvind Subramanian is going to be the Chief Economic Adviser of Indian government. The office was vacant ever since the ascent of Raghuram Rajan as the governor of the Reserve Bank of India in 2013.

5- INS Kamorta, nation’s first indigenously built stealth warship, gets commissioned into Indian Navy.

6- West Bengal gets the nation’s first ‘Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology’ (IIEST) at Shibpur, Howrah.
