Manabadi Current Affairs 01 September 2014-15 ::: 1- World Badminton Championships 2014: Carolina Marin becomes the first Spanish to clinch the world title humbling world number one Xuerui Li of China in the final. In another upset, the men’s title went to China’s Chen Long who stunned Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia) . Its the third consecutive final defeat for the Malaysian world number one.

2- Nalanda University rise from the ashes today after eight centuries of hiatus. The ancient university begins classes with 15 students and 11 faculty members from the new campus at Rajgir. Vice-Chancellor: Dr Gopa Sabharwal

3- ‘Jaipur Pink Panthers’ clinches inaugural ‘Pro Kabaddi League’ by defeating ‘U Mumba’ in the final. The team is owned by Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan.

4- Veteran Telugu filmmaker Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana aka Bapu passes away aged 80. he Padma Shri (2013) laureate, directed 51 films over his 4-decade long carreer.

5- The US Post Service to issue a special commemorative postage stamp in a tribute to legendary Telugu actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. It will be released on his birthday (Sep 20) this year. He is the first Indian to get this honour.

6- Renowned historian Bipin Chandra, a Padma Bhushan laureate, breathes his last at 86. Few of his notable books include: ‘The Rise and Growth of Economic Nationalism’, ‘In the Name of Democracy: The JP Movement and the Emergency’, ‘Nationalism and Colonialism in Modern India’ and ‘The Making of Modern India: From Marx to Gandhi’.
