1. India celebrates a landmark achievement in public health – ‘the victory over polio’ on Monday. The country has now completed three years without any polio, one of the key pre-requisites for polio-free certification, amidst a very sensitive surveillance system for poliovirus.

2. A ban on India’s Olympic Association (IOA) has been lifted, allowing the country to return to the Olympic fold.

3. The interim Railway budget for 2014-15 will be presented in Parliament tomorrow. Railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge will present the budget in the Lok Sabha at noon. The Railway minister is likely to announce more trains, better amenities and safety measures for passengers. Sources in the ministry said it will be a growth-oriented budget.

4. R.K.Tiwari was appointed as the new chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

5. Former Hollywood child star Shirley Temple has died at the age of 85. She died yesterday in California, from natural causes.

6. The French Consul General in Kolkata, Fabrice Etienne was on a fact-finding mission to explore opportunities for investment in mineral-rich Jharkhand.

7. The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, presented Krishi Karman Awards for the year 2012-13 on 10 February 2014.
In the Total food grain production category, the awards were presented to Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Manipur states. In the excellence in the Individual food grains crops category, the awards were presented to Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar States.

8. Jatinder Bir Singh was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of Punjab and Sind Bank (PSB) on 6 February 2014. He will succeed D.P.singh

9. Indian-origin Mathew Martoma, convicted for his role in the most lucrative insider trading scheme in US history involving $275 million, will be sentenced in June and could face about 20 years in prison.

10. Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina are among the six capped Indian players named in the Mudgal Panel report, media reports claimed on Tuesday.
