1. Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Anja Niedringhaus was shot dead by a policeman in Afghanistan on 4th April while she was covering the 2014 presidential election in Afghanistan. She was 48. Anja Niedringhaus was a German photojournalist working for the Associated Press. She was the only woman on a team of 11 AP photographers that won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for coverage of the Iraq War.
2. Marie-Lousie Coleiro Preca was sworn-in as the President of Malta on 4th April. She replaced George Abela from Labour Party whose term was completed on 4th April. She is Malta’s ninth President and the second female President.
3. USA President Barack Obama has nominated Sunil Sabharwal as the next US Alternate Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He is currently working as independent investor in the payments sector.

Africa’s most populous country and largest oil producer, Nigeria is set to emerge as the biggest economy of Africa when the results of an overdue rebasing of its gross domestic product are announced. Although United Nations statisticians recommend that countries rebase their GDP calculations every five years to reflect changes in the structure of production and consumption, Nigeria last carried out the exercise in 1990.

7. Polling for National Election will start from tomorrow with first phase of voting in Assam and Tripura. Five constituencies in Assam and Tripura (West) in Tripura will go to the polls on Monday.
