1. World Health Day is celebrated today (7th April) across the world to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. In 1948, the WHO held the First World Health Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate 7th April of each year, with effect from 1950, as the World Health Day.
2. Indian Cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named captain of the 2014 ICC World Team of the Tournament today which also includes four players from Indian team. Opener Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin are the other two Indian players who feature in the team.
3. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes team secured the first place in the Bahrain Grand Prix held on 6th April in Bahrain. Last year champion Sebastian Vettel secured sixth place in the same race.

Defending champion Lee Chong Wei retained the men’s singles title with a straight-game victory over China’s Chen Long by 21-13, 21-17 in the finals of the India Super Series Badminton in New Delhi yesterday. In an all-Chinese women’s singles final, Shixian Wang defeated Li Xuerui by 22-20, 21-19 to win women’s singles title
5. Indian cricket team lost its No 1 rank to Sri Lanka after being defeated in the World Twenty20 final yesterday in the latest Reliance ICC T20I Team Rankings Table published today.
6. Defending Champion Punjab won the 4th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) by defeating Odisha 6-2 in the finals at Chennai yesterday. At the same time, Haryana defeated the Sports Authority of India by 7-3 to win the third place in the tournament. Harjeet Singh of Punjab was awareded with the Man of the Tournament award.
7. Koyal Rana won the 51st edition of the FBB Femina Miss India 2014 crown after defeating 24 other contestants from across the country on 5th April. She was crowned by 2013 winner of Femina Miss India title Navneer Kaur Dhillion and Miss World 2013 Megan Young. She will represent India at the Miss World international beauty pageant this year. Jhataleka Malhotra was crowned as first runner-up and Gail Nicole Da’Silva was crowned as second runner-up
