1. India ratifies IAEA Additional Protocol to clear way for nuclear imports to boost power generation in the country. The ratification will also improve global confidence about India’s civil nuclear programme. It will only cover 20 Nuclear facilities in the country which are subject to IAEA inspection under safeguards agreement.

2. The Tang Prize winners 2014 :

    Albie Sachs in Rule of Law category for his many contributions to human rights and justice globally.
    Historian Yu Ying-shih in ‘Sinology’ (the study of China).
    James P Allison and Tasuku Honjo in Biopharmaceutical Sciences category for the discoveries of CTLA-4 and PD-1 as immune inhibitory molecules that led to their applications in cancer immunotherapy.
    Earlier, Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway was conferred on the Tang Prize in sustainable development category.

3. Rani –ki –Vav gets inscripted on the World Heritage list of UNESCO. The 11th century stepwell located in Patan (Gujarat) is the most developed, elaborate and ornate example of a unique type of Indian subterranean architectural structure. It was nominated by ASI for the World Heritage List of UNESCO in February 2013.

4. It is UN Public Service Day today. The day (June 23) celebrates the contribution of public service and servants to the development of society at large. It also encourage the work of public servants through global awards presented annually since 2003. This year’s United Nations Public Service Day Awards ceremony and forum will take place in Seoul, South Korea (June 23-26).

5. The world observes 4th International Widows’ Day on June 23. The occasion is used to advocate for the rights of all widows so they can enjoy better lives and realize their great potential to contribute to the society. An estimated 115 million widows live in poverty, with 81 million of them also suffering physical abuse globally.
