1. Indo-US combined military training exercise “YUDH ABHYAS 2014” is to be conducted in the foothills of Himalayas of Chaubattia in Uttarakhand from September 17 to 30, under the aegis of GARUD DIVISION/SURYA COMMAND.

    The event is 10th in the series of joint military training exercises between the two nations.

2. Rohan Bopanna has been selected for the Davis Cup Commitment Award given by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

    Australian Lleyton Hewitt and Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil are the other two recipients. Its allotted to Davis Cup players for their dedication in representing their country in this prestigious tournament.
    One must have competed in a minimum of 20 home-and-away ties or 50 ties at any level of the competition (including week-long zone group events) over their career to be eligible for this honour.

3. Narendra Ambwani is the new Chairman of the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). He, a member of the board of governors for seven years, replaces Partha Rakshit as such.

4. Environment Ministry launches Online Portal for grant of recognition and monitoring of zoos. The Portal will bring transparency and accountability in the process of recognition of Zoos in the Country.

    It will maintain and provide real time information about the recognition and evaluation process to the stakeholders.

5. Nandan Nilekani has been conferred with V Krishna Murthy Award for Excellence. He has served as CEO of Infosys and head of Unique Identification Authority of India.

    Krishna Murthy, the one this prize is named after, is credited with turning around the ailing fortunes of public sector majors like BHEL, SAIL and Maruti.
