1. Indo-US combined military training exercise “YUDH ABHYAS 2014” is to be conducted in the foothills of Himalayas of Chaubattia in Uttarakhand from September 17 to 30, under the aegis of GARUD DIVISION/SURYA COMMAND.

    The event is 10th in the series of joint military training exercises between the two nations.

2. Rohan Bopanna has been selected for the Davis Cup Commitment Award given by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

    Australian Lleyton Hewitt and Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil are the other two recipients. Its allotted to Davis Cup players for their dedication in representing their country in this prestigious tournament.

    A latest UN report shows that holes in the ozone layer are shrinking and its almost reached at the level it was before the signing of this landmark agreement in 1987.
    The atmospheric layer protects us from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays and spare us from resultant harms.

3- 46 percent of girls in South Asia are married off before 18: UNICEF

    18 percent are not even allowed to cross 15.

3- Union government clears Phase-V of the Unique Identification (UID) scheme for undertaking enrolments in the four States of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. Over 67 crore Aadhaar numbers have been allotted by the UIDAI since its inception in August 2010. The phase-V aims to take this tally to over a billion by 2015.

4- Torn between Billiards and Snooker; Pankaj Advani to quit the latter, He will retire from professional snooker after the conclusion of Indian Snooker Open 2014 to be held in Pune from September 19-24.

    Initially the prizes were given only in Journalism and Mass Communication; three categories namely National Integration, Women’s Issues and Children’s Literature were added later.

5- India is sending a 679-strong contingent for 17th Asian Games 2014 which is to take place in Incheon (South Korea) from September 19 to October 4. The group with 516 athletes plus 163 Coaches and Support Staff will be participating in a total of 28 disciplines as against 35 last time.

3- Himachal Pradesh High Court bans religious sacrifice of animals at all places of public worship across the state.

1. India lose maritime territory to Bangladesh in a UN tribunal ruling. The court awards Bangladesh 19,467 square km of the total 25,602 sq km of disputed territory in the Bay of Bengal.
