1- 132 School children massacred by Taliban at Army Public School in Peshawar.

    The siege laid by the seven gunmen – in retaliation to Pakistan army offensive – resulted in 141 death overall.
    The school had about 1100 students present at the time – some 960 have been rescued.
    The death toll may go up with several being critically injured.
    This is probably the deadliest terrorist attack in Pakistan ever.

2- India bans ‘Islamic State’ finally. The ban will limit the activities of this terrorist group in the country. The move is taken after the arrest of a Bangalore-based IT engineer for running a Twitter account for the dreaded militia.

3- Infant Mortality Rate has declined from 58 per 1000 live births in 2005 to 40 per 1000 live births in 2013.

    The Neo-Natal Mortality Rate (NMR) has declined from 37 per 1000 live births in 2006 to 29 per 1000 live births in 2012.
    Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has declined from 254 maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births in 2004-06 to 178 maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births during 2010-12.

4- IRCTC is the most searched website in India this year (2014); followed by Flipkart and SBI: Google.

    Snapdeal, HDFC netbanking and OLX also figured in the top 10 searches on Google.
    Online shopping websites are the most searched key words in India.
    Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the second most searched personalities, only behind Sunny Leone.

5- Fortune 500 list of Indian companies for 2014: Indian Oil Corporation is largest company in terms of revenue.

    It was followed by Reliance Industries and Bharat Petroleum in the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
    The list includes HPCL (4th) Tata Motors (5th), State Bank of India (6th), ONGC (7th), Tata Steel (8th), Essar Oil (9th) and Hindalco Industries (10th).

6- HDFC Bank launches ‘Bank Aap Ki Muththi Mein’ initiative to bring banking to mobile phones.

    It will offers 75 phone banking transactions – both financial and non-financial – that one needs to visit a branch, or an ATM for.
    It is by far the largest offering of its kind by any bank in India.
    It works even on a basic phone that does not supports internet browsing through calls and SMSes.
    As of September 2014, India had over 900 million mobile users but only 40 million mobile banking customers.

7- Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launches a “National Health Portal” to provide healthcare information to the citizens of the country.

    The portal – http://nhp.gov.in – will serve as a single point access for consolidated and authentic information and resources on the health sector to a wide spectrum of users such as academicians, citizens, students, healthcare professionals and researchers.
