1. Shashi Kapoor, the veteran actor and producer was chosen for the 46th edition of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is the most prestigious film award in India. This award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema. Shashi Kapoor (77), the son of Prithviraj Kapoor and younger brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, started acting in films as a child in the late 1940s.हिंदी फिल्मों में अपने जमाने के मशहूर अभिनेता तथा फिल्म निर्माता शशि कपूर को भारत में फिल्म क्षेत्र का सर्वोच्च सम्मान दादासाहेब फाल्के पुरस्कार देने की घोषणा केन्द्र सरकार ने की। यह इस पुरस्कार का 46वाँ संस्करण होगा। यह पुरस्कार भारतीय सिनेमा के विकास और वृद्धि के लिए उत्कृष्ट योगदान हेतु भारत सरकार द्वारा प्रदत्त है। 77 वर्षीय शशि कपूर मशहूर थियेटर एवं फिल्म कलाकार पृथ्वीराज कपूर के पुत्र तथा राजकपूर व शम्मी कपूर के छोटे भाई हैं। उन्होंने अपने फिल्मी करियर की शुरूआत 40 के दशक में एक बाल कलाकार के रूप में की थी।

2. A Qatar-based logistics firm, Milaha Maritime and Logistics, a subsidiary of the Qatar- based Milaha Group has launched the first-ever direct container service between Qatar and India to further facilitate the bilateral trade that has witnessed a significant growth in the recent years. The non-stop service will connect Qatar’s Doha port with India’s largest port Nhava Sheva, also known as Jawaharlal Nehru Port located in Mumbai. The new weekly service will enable direct shipments between Nhava Sheva and Doha, thus increasing reliability and reducing transit time and costs.

3. HDFC Bank managing director Aditya Puri has featured in the list of 30 best CEOs, published by America’s financial magazine Barron’s. According to the magazine, this year seven other CEOs have been added to its 11th annual list.

एचडीएफसी बैंक के प्रबंध निदेशक आदित्य पुरी अमेरिकी वित्तीय पत्रिका बैरंस द्वारा जारी 30 सर्वश्रेष्ठ मुख्य कार्यपालकों की सूची में शामिल हैं। पत्रिका ने अपनी इस 11वीं वाषिर्क सूची का प्रकाशन करते हुए कहा कि इस साल सात नये सीईओ शामिल किये गये हैं जिसमें एचडीएफसी के प्रबंध निदेशक आदित्य पुरी भी शामिल हैं।

4. The SEBI approved guidelines to govern International Financial Services Centres (IFSC). India’s first such International Financial Services Centres will be established in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).The GIFT City is being established near Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The new norms for IFSCs approved by SEBI aims to ease the setting up of stock exchanges and capital market infrastructure in such centres.

सेबी द्वारा प्रस्तावित अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वित्तीय सेवा केन्द्रों की स्थापना के बारे में विस्तृत दिशानिर्देश जारी कर दिए। देश में इस प्रकार का पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वित्तीय सेवा केन्द्र गुजरात इंटरनेशनल फाइनेंस टेक-सिटी (गिफ्ट सिटी) में स्थापित किया जा रहा है। गुजरात की राजधानी गाँधीनगर में स्थापित किए जा रहे गुजरात इंटरनेशनल फाइनेंस टेक-सिटी को भारत में अपनी तरह का पहला अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वित्तीय सेवा केन्द्र बताया जा रहा है। जारी किए गए इन दिशानिर्देशों के अनुसार स्टॉक एक्सचेंजों को ऐसे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय वित्तीय सेवा केन्द्रों में स्थापित करना आसान होगा।

5. China and Europe are in collaboration for the launch of a low-cost space mission. The proposed project, called Discovering the Sky at the Longest Wavelengths (DSL), is one of around 15 submitted for a call by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) that concluded recently, Nature reported. The DSL project would use the satellite array to detect radio signals with wavelengths a few hundred meters in length.

चीन और यूरोपीय संघ ने कम लागत वाला एक अंतरिक्ष अभियान शुरू करने के लिए हाथ मिलाया है। पत्रिका ‘नेचर’ की रपट के अनुसार, इस प्रस्तावित परियोजना को ‘डिस्कवरिंग द स्काई एट द लॉन्गेस्ट वेवलेंथ्स’ (डीएसएल) नाम दिया गया है। हाल ही में समाप्त हुई यूरोपीय अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी (ईएसए) और चीनी विज्ञान अकादमी (सीएएस) की बैठक में 15 अभियान शुरू करने पर सहमति बनी, जिसमें से एक डीएसएल भी है। डीएसएल परियोजना के तहत रेडियो संकेतों का पता लगाने के लिए उपग्रहों का इस्तेमाल करेगा।

6. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) made it easier for domestic funds to manage offshore pooled assets by dropping the so-called ‘20-25 Rule’. It required a minimum of 20 investors and a cap of 25% on investment by an individual, for funds from low-risk foreign investors.

भारत के प्रतिभूति एवं विनिमय बोर्ड (सेबी) ने आयोजित अपनी बोर्ड मीटिंग में घरेलू फण्डों द्वारा विदेशों में पूल्ड परिसम्पत्तियों के प्रबन्धन को आसान करने के उद्देश्य से “20-25 नियम” को समाप्त करने की घोषणा कर दी। इस नियम के अंतर्गत विदेशी फण्ड में कम से कम 20 निवेशक होना आवश्यक था तथा किसी भी एक निवेशक की उस फण्ड में 25% से अधिक हिस्सेदारी नहीं हो सकती थी।

7. Romania’s Simona Halep secured the biggest title of her career as she defeated Jelena Jankovic to win the Indian Wells. Simona Halep claimed her first Indian Wells Open Tennis Women’s Singles title. With a marathon 2-6 7-5 6-4 victory over former champion Jelena Jankovic, Halep clinched the title.
रोमानिया की सिमोना हालेप ने करियर की सबसे बड़ी जीत हासिल करते हुये पूर्व चैंपियन येलेना यांकोविच को पराजित कर इंडियन वेल्स महिला एकल का खिताब अपने नाम कर लिया। हालेप ने यांकोविच को फाइनल में 2-6 7-5 6-4 से हराकर खिताब अपने नाम कर लिया।

8. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) projected India’s growth rate to surpass China and improve to 7.8 per cent in next fiscal and further to 8.2 per cent in 2016-17.

एशियाई विकास बैंक (एडीबी) ने अनुमान जताया कि भारत की वृद्धि दर चीन को पार कर अगले वित्त वर्ष के दौरान बढ़कर 7.8 प्रतिशत हो जाएगी और 2016-17 में यह 8.2 प्रतिशत हो जाएगी।

9. The 62nd National Film Awards have been announced. Kangana Ranaut wins the Best Actress Award for her performance in “Queen”. Priyanka Chopra starrer “Mary Kom” wins the the Best Popular Film providing wholesome entertainment. Bobby Simha wins the Best Supporting Actor for Tamil movie “Jigarthanda”. Queen also won Best Hindi Film. Best Feature Film was won by the multi-lingual Court.

1- 132 School children massacred by Taliban at Army Public School in Peshawar.

    The siege laid by the seven gunmen – in retaliation to Pakistan army offensive – resulted in 141 death overall.
    The school had about 1100 students present at the time – some 960 have been rescued.
    The death toll may go up with several being critically injured.
    This is probably the deadliest terrorist attack in Pakistan ever.

2- India bans ‘Islamic State’ finally. The ban will limit the activities of this terrorist group in the country. The move is taken after the arrest of a Bangalore-based IT engineer for running a Twitter account for the dreaded militia.

3- Infant Mortality Rate has declined from 58 per 1000 live births in 2005 to 40 per 1000 live births in 2013.

    The Neo-Natal Mortality Rate (NMR) has declined from 37 per 1000 live births in 2006 to 29 per 1000 live births in 2012.
    Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has declined from 254 maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births in 2004-06 to 178 maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births during 2010-12.

4- IRCTC is the most searched website in India this year (2014); followed by Flipkart and SBI: Google.

    Snapdeal, HDFC netbanking and OLX also figured in the top 10 searches on Google.
    Online shopping websites are the most searched key words in India.
    Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the second most searched personalities, only behind Sunny Leone.

5- Fortune 500 list of Indian companies for 2014: Indian Oil Corporation is largest company in terms of revenue.

    It was followed by Reliance Industries and Bharat Petroleum in the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
    The list includes HPCL (4th) Tata Motors (5th), State Bank of India (6th), ONGC (7th), Tata Steel (8th), Essar Oil (9th) and Hindalco Industries (10th).

6- HDFC Bank launches ‘Bank Aap Ki Muththi Mein’ initiative to bring banking to mobile phones.

    It will offers 75 phone banking transactions – both financial and non-financial – that one needs to visit a branch, or an ATM for.
    It is by far the largest offering of its kind by any bank in India.
    It works even on a basic phone that does not supports internet browsing through calls and SMSes.
    As of September 2014, India had over 900 million mobile users but only 40 million mobile banking customers.

7- Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launches a “National Health Portal” to provide healthcare information to the citizens of the country.

    The portal – http://nhp.gov.in – will serve as a single point access for consolidated and authentic information and resources on the health sector to a wide spectrum of users such as academicians, citizens, students, healthcare professionals and researchers.

3- Saakshar Bharat Awards 2014 presented by the President on the International Literacy Day (September 8, 2014). The awards are allotted to encourage institutions working in the field of literacy and skill developments.

4- Scientist have unearthed first the largest ever dinosaur (probably) and then we get the news of discovery of a whole new species of the same. Ohio University scientists have dug out a new species of Titanosaurian Dinosaur in Tanzania. The species, found ingrained in a cliff wall in the Rukwa Basin of southwestern Tanzania, has been named Rukwatitan Bisepultus.

5- US Open witnessed a new unheralded champion this year in men’s singles section.

    Croatia’s Marin Cilic conquers his first grand slam having dashed the hope of Kei Nishikori – the first man from Asia (and Japan) to reach a Slam final – with an emphatic scoreline of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3.
    All the big names had fallen by the wayside after the injury-induced pull-out of defending champion Rafael Nadal.

1. State Bank of India launches six digital branches named sbi-INTOUCH across the country as a part of its programme to offer next generation high-tech banking. These outlets are located in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kolkata (soon).

    These branches will have digital banking capabilities, which include instant account opening with personalized debit cards, instant loan approvals for education, car and home and remote expert advisors available via video links.
    The new branches are equipped with interactive wall and table displays and multi-function kiosks.

2. New Zealand batsman Lou Vincent has been banned for life by the ECB for his self-confessed involvement in match-fixing in county cricket.

3. United States names a mountain in Antarctica as Mount Sinha in the honour of eminent Indian-American scientist ‘Akhouri Sinha’. US Geological Survey has conferred on him the recognition for his work to compile population studies of seals, whales and birds in the pack ice as an explorer of the US Coast Guard in 1971-72.

4. Indian Oil Corporation has given AMK Sinha, the company’s Director for planning and business development, additional charge of the post of Chairman of the company from July 2.

5. Indian shooter Jitu Rai, riding high on three medals won in the recent ISSF World Cups in Munich and Slovenia, romps to world number one ranking in air pistol event. The 27-year-old army man is the seventh Indian shooter after Anjali Bhagwat, Rajyavardhan Rathore, Gagan Narang, Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Ronjon Sodhi and Heena Sidhu to have claimed the top slot in their respective events.

6. Ladakh International Film Festival 2014. Ram Ramesh Sharma Directorial ‘Kaafiron Ki Namaaz’ (The Virgin Arguments) emerges as the most successful film with 4 awards at the 3rd Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF) 2014. Iranian film ‘Wet Letters’ ended up with three awards at this highest-altitude international film festival worldwide.
