1. Centre imposes additional penalty of $579 million on Reliance Industries for producing less than targeted natural gas from its KG-D6 block. This brings the total penalty on RIL to a $ 2.376 billion. This is the 4th consecutive year, beginning 2010, RIL has been fined for missing the target production.

2. BRICS Development Bank launched in Brazil. The 6th BRICS summit concludes in Fortaleza (Brazil) with the much awaited creation of $100 billion development bank. The bank will act as a counterweight to western-dominated global financial lenders like World Bank and IMF.

3. Environment Ministry launches web portal for online submission and monitoring of Forest Clearance proposals. The change, meant to bring in more transparency and accountability, will also quicken up the tedious clearing process.

4. Centre to establish ‘National Centre for Research & Development in Bulk Drugs’ (NCRDBD) at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad.

5. There are 3680 monuments/sites of national importance in India as of today. They are declared a s such under the provisions of the Ancient Monuments, Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958. Out of these, 955 monuments/sites have been identified as places of worship in the country.

6. Rina Mitra has been appointed as the Director of ‘National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science’ (NICFS).

7. Assam government is to implement National Food Security Act (NFSA) beginning September 1, 2014.
