1- Global Competitiveness Report 2014-15: India slips 11 places to 71st rank.

    Switzerland is the most competitive economy, followed by Singapore and United States.
    BRICS: China (28), Russia (53), South Africa (56), Brazil (57) and at bottom is India with 71st rank.

2- Lt Colonel Sudhakar Jayant lifts gold medal in the 62kg weight category at the IWF World Masters Weightlifting Championships held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Its his 3rd successive gold medal at the event after the ones in Ukraine (2012) and Italy (2013).

3- International Literacy Day 2014 celebrated across the globe on September 8. The theme of the annual day for this year (2014) is “Literacy and Sustainable Development”. The day, in observance since 1966, aims to highlight the importance of literacy.

4- Noted journalist Vinod Mehta is honoured with GK Reddy Memorial Award 2014 for his contribution in the field of Journalism. He, presently an editorial Chairman of Outlook group, has launched publications like ‘The Sunday Observer’, ‘The Independent’ and ‘The Pioneer’.

5- Centre to launch a National Water Conservation and Water Enrichment Scheme from 25th of September. September 25th is the birth anniversary of Late Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.

6- India is home to 25 percent of the global multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB cases annually. India accounts for 99,000 cases out of the total 390,000 worldwide.

7- Sania Mirza has clinched the mixed doubles crown at the US Open 2014 with her male partner Bruno Soares of Brazil.

    The duo beat the pair of Abigail Spears (US) and Santiago Gonzalez (Mexico) by 6-1 2-6 11-9.
    It was her 3rd mixed-doubles titles, after the two with Mahesh Bhupathi at the Australian Open in 2009 and then at French Open in 2012.
