1. India is now the world’s second largest textile exporter after China. China still maintains a heavy lead over India with its trade volume being almost 7 times as high. The data, released by the Apparel Export Promotion Council, states that over 55% of global trade relates to readymade garments. Italy, Germany and Bangladesh secured third, fourth and fifth ranks respectively.
2. India slips to 7th rank, lowest in over a decade, in the foreign direct investment confidence index. The index has been topped by the United States for the second year in a row. The survey conducted by global consulting firm AT Kearney takes into account the data of 2012. Indian could only attract $25.5 billion FDI inflows in 2012 (7th) as against $31.6 billion in 2011 (5th rank).
3. Scientists at the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) cloned female buffalo calf, Lalima, using indigenously developed hand-guided cloning technique. Lalima, a Murrah buffalo, is the seventh buffalo clone produced by NDRI.
4. China marks the 25th anniversary of the student-led Tiananmen Square Protest that took place on June 4, 1989. The protest was a movement for democracy in China which was nipped in the bud by communist military might.
